This was the first version of quarto. It has a sapele box that was hollowed out using the cnc router to create the board and allow it to store the pieces. The box has a magnetic clasp that keeps it firmly shut without any visible exterior hardware. The pieces were made by hand using poplar dowel and square rod that were stained to create the different colors.

The second version has more traditional design. The board is made from walnut with round depressions for the pieces. The light pieces are made of hard maple and the dark pieces are made of purpleheart. The pieces were cut using the 4th axis on the CNC machine.
